For passionate anglers, traveling to Japan isn’t just about visiting historic temples—it’s about standing in a pristine mountain stream, holding a fly rod, and connecting with nature.
Here in the Kanazawa and Hokuriku region, fly fishing is deeply rooted in history. Over 400 years ago, during the Edo period, local samurai warriors developed a unique fly fishing culture disguised as a form of mental and physical training. They hand-tied exquisite, artistic flies (known as Kaga Kebari) using natural feathers and gold leaf to trick wild trout in mountain streams.
At K-Samurai Tours, we bridge the gap between your familiar hobby and this rich Japanese angling heritage. Led by a licensed local guide and lifelong fly fisher, we offer premium, guided experiences tailored for international travelers.
Whether you want to sneak away for a seamless half-day session during your stay in Kanazawa, or design a fully customized expedition into the deep rivers of Toyama and Fukui, we provide the ultimate, hands-free angling adventure for you. Uncover the secret rivers of Japan and fish like a samurai.

Toyama: The Montana of Japan
True to its name—which literally means "Rich with Mountains"—Toyama is a land defined by its rugged, alpine peaks. Much like Montana in the U.S., Toyama is a premier destination for fly fishing enthusiasts.
Our waters are incredibly diverse, ranging from powerful mountain torrents filled with massive boulders to serene, secluded streams tucked deep within rural valleys. These pristine rivers are home to the Iwana (White-spotted Char) and Yamame (Cherry Salmon)—unique species found only in Japan.
Swimming in the crystal-clear waters of the Japanese Alps, these fish are truly like "Living Jewels." Come and experience the thrill of the catch in one of the world’s most beautiful alpine settings.

🌟 "One of the highlights of my time in Japan!"
"I had an incredible half-day fly fishing experience outside of Kanazawa on the Asano River with Naoto from K-Samurai Tours. Though it was a relatively short drive from Kanazawa, it felt like we had escaped the city entirely and entered a quieter, more traditional side of Japan. The scenery was beautiful, the river was peaceful, and the entire experience felt authentic and deeply relaxing. If I get the opportunity to go again, which I hope I do, I’d opt for the full day trip to go even further into the countryside and surrounding mountains and explore even more productive Yamame and Iwana fly fishing water.
Naoto was outstanding — knowledgeable, patient, and clearly passionate about both fly fishing and the local environment. Whether helping with technique, choosing flies, or explaining the history and culture he made the trip memorable far beyond just the fishing itself.
If you are visiting Kanazawa, or any other region that Naoto operates in, and are a fly fisherman or just want an experience that goes beyond the usual tourist itinerary, I cannot recommend this trip enough."
